Welcome to Teachers as Writers!

I created this blog to encourage teachers to become writers. The more we experience and understand the writing process for ourselves, the better we will be at teaching our students to write. Please join me in this adventure!

Encouraging Words

I am returning this otherwise good typing paper to you because someone has printed gibberish all over it and put your name at the top.

I doubt you have ever written THAT on the top of a student's paper but you may have run into a few people over the years who discouraged you from writing. It was my senior year in high school before I heard anything encouraging from a teacher about my writing. Children seem to develop an idea of their ability to write at an early age.
  • What makes you want to write?
  • How do you encourage you students to take the risk?

  1. I love the comment from the mean professor!

I think it would be great to model ways to give children feedback to improve thier writing while still nurturing a love of writing.

  2. Questions:
    1. Sharing an artistic creation that burst through the surface is a risk one must endure?

    2. What happens if we create an environment of student ownership?
